Science at the Gateway

In science we aim to raise pupil’s self-esteem by promoting enjoyment and achievement within science lessons, through planned activities that value self-evaluation and target setting.

We stimulate pupil’s interest in science through appropriate teacher exposition, demonstration, practical investigation, using ICT, video, pupil discussions and by using modern relevant text.

The curriculum is divided into Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4

In KS3 pupils are provided with combined science in line with The National Curriculum in

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

Pupils study these disciplines through Collins KS3 science programme within the entry level mapped. At the end of KS3 programme pupils are given the opportunity to complete the accreditation for Entry Level Science qualification.

In KS4 pupils are offered the opportunity to gain accreditation at GCSE level. We are currently following the gateway Science B for OCR.

Throughout KS3 and KS4 their progress is monitored through sequential model of learning around Threshold concept.

The structure provides:

  • Assessment tool
  • Individual progress
  • What to know and where to go next
  • Self-assessment opportunity
  • Accountability on their attendance and punctuality
